Our Philosophy

We believe that every horse and every young woman is a unique and sensitive  individual who deserves to be treated with dignity and love. Though we are not all equally gifted in every way, each of us has our special talents and qualities that we can share with each other and with the world. That's why each camper who is riding one of our ranch horses is matched with the one that best matches her size, skill level, riding goals, and even her personality.
We don't allow rough treatment of any horse, regardless of the rider's skill level. And we insist that all campers encourage one another in their riding lessons, and help each other with the chores relating to the care of their horses, for which they are each responsible.
We teach riding and handling of the horses in a way that incorporates the horses' natural sensitivity into the process in a positive way, rather than ignoring or abusing it.
We start by establishing the rider's balance and correct position on the ground, and astride the horse. Then we add subtle, but significant signals incorporating body language, breathing, and the traditional aids and cues of leg pressure and position, and proper use of the reins. We emphasize proper technique, timing and feel in applying and releasing our signals.

Consequently, our horses stay quiet, fresh, and willing to cooperate, and even to collaborate with their rider - handlers. This method is equally useful across both English and Western disciplines, and can be adapted to all types of riding and instruction.
The result is the development of a true horse to human to horse connection that is enjoyable and rewarding beyond words. In the process, our young women learn that they can be both strong and kind, and in being both, they deserve the respect and kindness of others.
